The SICIS system (Shared Intermodal Container Information System) which was developed within the EU project INTEGRITY tracks containers on door-to-door transports worldwide. The containers are monitored using interfaces between SICIS and involved container terminals which transmit container status information, and by using Container Security Devices (CSDs) which provide the containers’ locations. The sea leg of the containers’ voyages is monitored by tracking the positions of the respective vessels.

Vessel tracking was satellite based so far, but will now be enhanced by combining the data with terrestrial AIS receivers located at neuralgic positions of the vessels’ routes. OHB Teledata GmbH, located in Bremen, is the responsible project partner for the technical realization of the AIS vessel monitoring. The provision of terrestrial AIS data is guaranteed by collaboration with the Hamburg-based company
AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a radio system which increases the security of marine traffic by exchanging navigation data.
This is another milestone for INTEGRITY to achieve a seamless worldwide container monitoring.
